Altbier

We are honored and excited about our Gold medal win at The Great American Beer Festival®! We won Gold for our Düsseldorf Style Altbier: Alt 140. So, Let's talk about Altbier!

Altbier is a traditional German Ale You Need to Try. If you're a fan of German beer, chances are you've heard of popular lagers like Pilsner and Helles. But have you ever tried Altbier? This traditional German ale is a lesser-known gem that's worth seeking out. Altbier, which translates to "old beer," is a style that originated in the city of Düsseldorf in the western part of Germany. It's a top-fermented ale brewed with ale yeast at a cool temperature, giving it a crisp, clean flavor. Unlike most German beers, Altbier is not a lager, which means it's not fermented at cold temperatures and doesn't have the same smoothness that lagers are known for. One of the unique features of Altbier is its deep copper color, which comes from roasted malt in the brewing process. This gives the beer a rich, malty flavor with subtle hints of caramel and toffee. Altbier is also known for its moderate bitterness, which comes from the use of noble hops that balance out the sweetness of the malt. One of the best places to try Altbier is in Düsseldorf, where several traditional breweries still brew. The most famous is Uerige, which has been brewing Altbier since 1862. At Uerige, you can enjoy a glass of Altbier straight from the wooden casks that line the walls of the brewery's historic taproom. But you don't have to travel to Germany to try Altbier.

Many craft breweries in the United States have started brewing versions of this classic style. If you're a fan of German beer or just looking to try something new, give Altbier a chance. Its unique flavor and rich history make it a must-try for any beer lover. Prost!

Brewed With Hallertau Mittlefrüh and Perle Hops

Distinctly German in style. Its historic brewing roots inspire this Altbier (German for old beer) in the historical region of Rhineland around the city Düsseldorf, Germany. Think crisp and dry with a light taste to match its caramel color. Brewed with Hallertau Mittlefrüh and Perle Hops - this Altbier strikes a perfect balance between hop and malt flavors. It's aggressively top-fermented to reduce sweetness and presents a hoppier taste like it's historically known for.
